The perfect Sunday roast, three courses, lovingly prepared by Head Chef Luke, served with a warm welcome in the heart of Oxfordshire.

There’s something timeless about a proper Sunday roast. It’s comforting, familiar, and best enjoyed in a cosy country pub surrounded by good company. At The Plough at Hanney, our Sunday lunch has become a bit of a local ritual. We reckon it’s because we do the classics really, really well.

From the crackle of pork crackling to the richness of our red wine gravy, everything is made in-house with care using local ingredients right here in West Hanney, Oxfordshire. We’re proud to source our meats from Hedges Butchers, a trusted local supplier known for quality and tradition.

What Makes The Perfect Sunday Roast?

Every Sunday, we serve a two or three-course roast dinner in Oxfordshire designed to make your weekend extra special. You’ll always find the stars of the show:

Roast Beef
First, slow-roasted until tender and served with all the trimmings. Expect crisp roast potatoes, fluffy Yorkshire puddings, cauliflower cheese, seasonal vegetables, and plenty of rich homemade gravy (as much as you like).

Roast Pork
Alternatively, beautifully cooked pork with perfectly crunchy crackling, paired with the same generous selection of sides.

Looking for something beyond a roast? No problem, we’ve got that too. Try our beer battered fish and chips, pan-fried sea bass with red curry broth, or a comforting mushroom risotto. These are ideal for non-meat eaters or anyone after something a little different from the traditional Sunday pub lunch.

A Proper Three-Course Pub Lunch

Our three-course Sunday lunch menu in Hanney changes with the seasons, however some current favourites include:

Of course, what’s a roast without a good glass of red? Our pub wine list is short but mighty, featuring bottles from our fabulous local supplier Oxford Wine Company. Each one is specially chosen to complement our Sunday roast menu.

With Roast Beef
Abadia Mercier Tempranillo Merlot from Spain. A bold and gutsy house red that pairs beautifully with beef and gravy.

With Roast Pork
Alternatively, the Zuccardi Bonarda from Argentina. A fresh and fruity red that’s perfect alongside pork and crackling.

If you’re feeling adventurous, Dominio de Tares El Paisano de Tares from Spain. A blend where light meets bold, perfect for those who like to try something new.

Owain’s Favourite
Finally, if you are looking for something rich and full-bodied, Owain’s go-to is the Neropasso Rosso from Italy. Rich, strong, and full-bodied. Ideal for a long, lazy Sunday lunch near Wantage.

Our Sunday lunch is £35 for two courses or £40 for three, available every Sunday from midday until 18:00.

Located in West Hanney, we’re just a short drive from Wantage, Abingdon, and Oxford. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, it’s the perfect spot for a walk before or after your meal.
